About ZX Audio

ZX Audio is an independent plugin studio run by Zach Howard in Canada. I'm a software developer and I produce electronic music, mostly synthwave, cyberpunk and heavy bass. ZX Audio is where those two meet.

I build the plugins I want in my own sessions. Each one has a clear job, a small set of controls that all do something, and a sound with some character. I write the code, design the interface and answer the support email myself.

What I'm working on

The first plugin is PHASE//ZERO, a phaser for electronic music. More will follow when they're ready, not on a schedule. I also take on custom plugin projects.

How I work

Sound first

I build something because I want to hear what it does. A plugin has to sound good in a real mix before it gets a feature list.

Fewer controls

Every control has to earn its place. If you can't tell what a knob does within a few seconds, I'm not done.

Tested properly

The plugins are C++ with JUCE. I've worked in software development and QA for years, and a creative tool still has to work every time you open the project.
